Egyptian style Gyro/shawarma in a food truck - Gyro vs Shawarma vs Döner
I am doing Gyro and Eastern Mediterranean food tour in NYC and I found this Egyptian food truck in midtown- 6th ave. My first impression was how long the line was. While waiting, I chatted with some people on the line. Some were Asian, some were European. But I was hungry and as I was watching the chef busy making the wraps, my mouth was salivating. His menu was big but I was interested in shawarma. When I got my sandwich, after 2-3 bites I noticed It wasn’t a traditional style gyro. It was cubes of lamb/beef. It’s supposed to be thinly sliced of meat. That’s how a döner should be. The bread was toasted good, veggies were fresh, the sauce was good as well. But other than that it was ok. Don’t get me wrong, the meat was tasty. I’d give a 6 out of 10.
